The Galion community is gearing up for an exciting annual tradition, Connections Weekend. This collaborative effort brings together Galion City Schools, the Galion Alumni Association, the Galion Community Education Foundation, the Galion Tiger Alumni Band, and the Galion Community Foundation for a weekend of celebration, learning, and connection.

Connections Weekend, scheduled for Oct. 11-12, is a tribute to Galion’s alumni and offers a rich educational experience for our students. This annual event is the perfect occasion to reconnect with family and old friends while making new acquaintances.

The weekend is packed with activities for everyone to enjoy.

• Thursday night bonfire — Celebrate each of Galion’s fall sports teams and meet the 2024 Homecoming Court. Everyone is invited to gather at Unckrich Stadium at 6:45 p.m. for some brief introductions and then follow the alumni band to the bonfire at the practice field.

• Friday career day — Community members and esteemed alumni will visit Galion Middle School to give presentations about their careers. Students will select and attend career presentations based on their interests. This interaction not only enriches our students’ understanding of potential career paths but also fosters a sense of community pride while supporting the district’s motto of “Believe, achieve, succeed.”

• Friday night football — The Marion Pleasant Spartans will be in town to face our Galion Tigers. The game starts at 7 p.m. at Unckrich Stadium. The excitement builds as the king and queen will be crowned during halftime. The 2024 Homecoming Court includes Jillian Capretta, Audrey Glew, Carlee Pennington, Madelyn Schieber, Cameron Eckert, Maxwell Albert, Braxton Prosser, Nathan McMullen, Quinn Miller and Jaxon Rinehart. Tickets to the game may be purchased online or at the gate.

• Saturday Kiwanis pancake breakfast — High school student council, choir members, and elementary music students will be on hand to serve and entertain during breakfast. Enjoy a delicious start to the weekend at Galion Intermediate School from 8-10:30 a.m.

• Hall of Fame induction dinner — Five distinguished alumni who have made a lasting impact in and beyond our local community will be celebrated and inducted into the Galion Hall of Fame. Dinner will be at Galion Middle School at 6:30 p.m. Doors open at 6 p.m. Tickets may be purchased at the Galion City Schools administrative office.

Inductees include Stuart Auld (Class of 1971), Lawrence Michele (Class of 1984), Theresa Michele (Class of 1985), Christina Walker (Class of 1994), and Fred McCumber (staff member).

Saturday evening homecoming dance — The weekend will come to a close as the high school students dance the night away in a celebration of school spirit. The Paris-themed dance begins at 7 p.m. Tickets are required and may be purchased on the Galion school website.

We invite everyone to join us in the weekend celebration of Galion’s rich history, vibrant community, and promising future.
