Local libraries transitioning to consortium

The Bucyrus Public Library and Galion Public Library are thrilled to announce a significant expansion in our borrowing capabilities as we transition from the COOL library consortium to the SEO library consortium. This change reflects our commitment to continuous improvement and enhanced service for our community members.

Transition details

As of now, patrons can no longer request items from other libraries independently. Instead, library staff will handle these requests to ensure all items are returned by the “go live” date of Dec. 9. After this date, borrowing will resume as usual with access to a vastly expanded collection.

Key highlights

Access to Over 8.1 million items. Patrons will have access to a much more extensive collection, expanding from the current 13 libraries to 103 libraries.

Nationwide interlibrary loan service

Through OCLC WorldShare, our patrons will benefit from a nationwide interlibrary loan service.

Notifications

Patrons will receive email and text notices for holds, reminders, and overdue items.

Full-feature mobile app

A new mobile app will provide a convenient and comprehensive library experience.

Flexible library card use

Patrons will be able to use their library card at any SEO member library.

The Bucyrus Public Library Board of Trustees is excited to announce this transition. Stephanie Buchanan, director of Bucyrus Public Library, stated, “This upgrade aligns with our 2024-25 strategic plan. With more items to choose from and more lending libraries, we anticipate a shorter wait time for requested materials and an increased likelihood you will find the item you are seeking. The transition is mainly behind the scenes and should be complete by Dec. 9. We are confident this decision will significantly enhance our patron experience.”

Mike Kirk, director at Galion Public Library, added, “With the transition to the new circulation system, our patrons will have access to the collections of over 100 different libraries as opposed to around 10 with the former system.”

In addition to Bucyrus and Galion, the Mt. Gilead Public Library will also be making this transition on Dec. 9.
