Local NAMI offering free classes

NAMI is the National Alliance on Mental Illness, beginning as a grassroots organization formed around a kitchen table by two mothers in Minneapolis, Minnesota. It has grown to an international organization in local communities working to help individuals and families so that people dealing with mental illness know they are not alone and that NAMI cares.

NAMI Family-to-Family is a class for families, significant others, and friends of people living with mental health conditions. Recognized as an evidence-based program by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), it teaches a better understanding of mental health conditions, increases coping skills, and helps those who participate to become advocates for their family members.

NAMI of Marion and Crawford Counties (NAMI-MCC) will be offering this educational series of eight weekly NAMI Family-to-Family classes on all October and November Tuesdays (no class on Election Day, Nov. 5) from 6-8:30 p.m. at Crawford Success Ctr., located at 130 N. Walnut St. in Bucyrus. Family-to-Family classes are free and are offered to loved ones, caregivers and/or friends of family members living with mental health issues. All class materials are provided.

To register for the free Family-to-Family class series, call the NAMI-MCC office at 740-375-0796 or go to www.namimcc.org for more information.
