Students share creativity with community

The preschool and kindergarten classes at Galion Primary School have found a delightful way to share their creativity with the community, partnering with local businesses to spread some artistic charm.

This past month, students decorated coffee cup sleeves and placemats, bringing colorful artwork and smiles to the downtown area. Sam Staton, the assistant principal, recently delivered these items to the downtown area.

Second-grade students and one of the kindergarten classes made placemats, which are now proudly used at the Whistle Stop Cafe. The coffee sleeves, provided by local business Three Bean Coffee House, were designed by the preschool and kindergarten classes and are given to customers as they purchase their favorite hot beverage.

The idea, however, isn’t entirely original. Staton, who began this project last spring, admitted with a smile, “I actually stole the idea from a coffee truck at a craft show.”

Regardless of its origins, the community has embraced the collaboration, and it’s quickly becoming a beloved tradition. The reaction from customers last spring was so favorable that the public library carried over the project during the summer. This creative initiative provides an opportunity for young students to engage with their local community while bringing a unique touch to everyday items.

Now that the new school year has begun, the ongoing effort will continue at Galion Primary School. Different classes will have the opportunity to provide decorated sleeves and placemats, ensuring fresh designs for all to enjoy throughout the year.
