Galion Hospital installs new MRI tech

Avita Galion Hospital is the first in Ohio to purchase the new Fujifilm Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) System, ECHELON Synergy with Deep Learning Reconstruction (DLR) technology powered by AI. With this new equipment, Galion Hospital can perform MRI scans of the brain, spine, extremities, abdomen, and now breasts, as well as patients with MRI-compatible pacemakers and leads.

“One of the many ways that we invest in our communities is through advanced technology,” explained Jerry Morasko, president and CEO of Avita Health System. “Our patients deserve to receive the best diagnostic solutions and medical care locally. We added 3T MRI at Ontario Hospital in 2019 and Bucyrus Hospital in 2021, and now we’re excited to upgrade our imaging capabilities at Galion Hospital.”

The ECHELON Synergy 1.5 Tesla MRI system employs Fujifilm’s proprietary DLR technology powered by AI to enhance the sharpness of images and acquire scans faster, contributing to higher image quality and reduced scan times. Reconstructing images with AI delivers scans four times faster than standard scans, which expands MRI access to more patients and reduces wait times for appointments.

Other features designed to enhance patient comfort and satisfaction include the 70cm wide bore and 62cm wide table to accommodate patients up to 550 pounds. The system’s opening accommodates a diverse array of patients, including individuals who have traditionally been hard to image due to their body weight or claustrophobia.

“We value every patient’s experience and strive to provide the highest satisfaction,” added Morasko. “The large bore and wide patient table provide optimal comfort and help alleviate anxiety.”

Galion Hospital’s new MRI also boasts SoftSound gradient technology to reduce acoustic noise as well as an exclusive Hydro AG antibacterial coating to help reduce healthcare-associated infections. The antibacterial coating provides a layer of added protection to suppress the growth of various types of bacteria, microorganisms, and mold on surfaces and is 99.99% effective against the most common bacteria.
