BUCYRUS — Family Field Day will be held Saturday, Sept. 28, rain, shine, or snow at Elkhorn Lake Hunt Club from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. This event allows families to try, on average, up to eight different outdoor activities and ask questions of individuals who already are proficient in that activity. How better to know if you like something than to try it and ask the experts?

If able, please pre-register so we can better prepare for your arrival and not have to wait in line to fill out paperwork. Walk-ins are always welcome. Check out our Family Field Day event on our Facebook page for updated information as we get closer to the date. Also, feel free to reach out to us via email or phone if you have any questions.

Parents or guardians are required to attend with their children, although older teens (15 and older) may attend with parental permission and a signed liability waiver. Parents are the best judge of a child’s desire and ability to profit from this event. Bring a water bottle, bug spray, sunscreen, and a hat, long pants, and sturdy footwear to make yourself more comfortable. If you cannot swim, a life preserver is strongly suggested for around-the-pond areas. All seminar equipment will be provided.

Scheduled activities and seminars will run throughout the day, and all sessions are attended by all participants.

Events include:

• Fishing- catfish, bluegill, and bass out of the pond.

• Archery range – staffed by the Christian Bowhunters Association

• Shotgun – Elkhorn staff with help from qualified volunteers

• Rifle range – with supervision from our ODNR friends.

Additional activities may include:

• Boat safety (ODNR Division of Watercraft)

• Pond ecology

• Kayaking

• Turkey Hunting (NWTF)

To participate in the youth pheasant hunt, a child must be at least 12 years old, have a hunter education certificate, a valid youth hunting license, wear hunter orange, and participate with a licensed responsible adult. A separate liability waiver/application is required. Participation times will be chosen at the event after we have verified who has arrived. Please fill out and return the registration form with your $5 registration fee per attendee. Lunch will be included, with our famous “Road Kill Stew” and wild game dishes. Please inform us of food allergies.
