Galion City Council announces sudden vacancy

The Galion City Council is facing a sudden vacancy after 4th Ward Rep. Carrie Zeger unexpectedly resigned, citing dissatisfaction with the council’s direction.

On July 15, the city announced that it is accepting resumes. Applicants must submit their resumes to the council clerk by 3 p.m. on Aug. 5. Resumes can be sent via email to [email protected] or by mail to: 301 Harding Way East, Galion, Ohio 44833.

Qualified candidates must reside within the 4th Ward, which includes the area bounded by Harding Way West, South Market Street, and Bucyrus Road – the southwest corner of Galion. Candidates who meet the proper qualifications will be interviewed on Aug. 8 during a special council meeting.

In an email explaining her sudden resignation, Zeger said, “I don’t feel my being on City Council is making any difference in this town. I no longer want to deal with the stress it brings to myself and my family. Too many unethical things happen within this administration and the citizens of this town do not trust the administration or City Council. I no longer wish to be a part of it.”

Later, in a Facebook post, Zeger expressed similar sentiment and added that she is “bashed constantly” and “hated even by people who don’t know you.” She also complained about the $350 a month council members receive.

Zeger could not be reached for further comment on her resignation.

In response to her resignation, Council President Eric Weber encouraged all members of the 4th Ward to apply and said that the council is committed to finding the best candidate to represent the area of Galion.

He thanked Zeger for her time on city council, saying, “I would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude for Ms. Zeger’s dedicated service and contributions during her tenure as a council member. While we are saddened by Ms. Zeger’s departure, we respect her decision. We are grateful for the positive changes she has been a part of. As we move forward with the process of filling her seat, please know that we wish her all the best in future endeavors and hope that she will remain an engaged member of our community.”
