SPARTA — The Mid-Ohio Athletic Conference wrestling championships were Saturday at Highland High School. When the day was finished, the Galion Tigers wrestling program would own two champions, two second-place finishers, two fifth-place finishers and a sixth place finisher.
In the 170-pound weight class, which Garrett Kuns is new to, Kuns wrestled his way to a perfect 4-0 record on the day to claim a championship for the Tigers.
Noah Grochowalski was the second champion for the Galion squad. Grochowalski, like Kuns, wrestled to a 4-0 record on the day en route to his place atop the podium.
With a record of 2-1, Brenden Ganshorn took home a second place finish in the 106-pound weight class for the Tigers.
Mason Weldon, 285-pound weight class wrestler for Galion, would also finish 2-1 on the day which was good for second place overall.
In the 152-pound group, Zach Carroll finished 3-2 at the MOAC to earn a fifth place finish. Matt Oehrli was Galion’s other fifth place finisher with a 3-2 record on the day in the 160-pound weight class. Cody Brady finished 2-3 on the day and grabbed sixth overall in the 126-pound weight class.
All wrestlers finishing first were named to the all-conference first team and second place finishers to the all-conference second team.

1. Northmor-212 points and fifth consecutive title; 2. Highland-100 points; 3. Mount Gilead-60 points; 4. Fredericktown-44 points; 5. Centerburg-30 points; 6. East Knox-13 points; 7. Cardington and Elgin-0 points
Sectionals tournament action will begin for the Galion Tigers wrestling team next Friday Feb. 24 in Fostoria.
