The Galion swimming team has ten swimmers that qualified for districts after the Division II sectional at Mansifeld Malabar on Saturday.
The Tigers placed fifth in the sectionals, while the Lady Tigers finished seventh.
Galion boys qualifed in three relays by placing third in the 200 medley relay, second in the 200 freestyle and fifth in the 400 free. Galion girls’ 200 medley relay team also qualified after placing sixth.
For the Tigers, Eli Skaggs won the 50 free with a time of 22.77 and the 100 butterfly with a time of 54.28. Sam Rigdon placed fourth in the 50 free in 23.86 and placed seventh in the 100 free with a time of 53.72. Landon Rose placed ninth in the 200 free with a time of 2:01.36 and the 100 free with a time of 55.21. Lucas Conner placed 12th in the 200 free in a season best time of 2:05.45, and he placed 10th in the 500 free in 5:41.33. Clay Karnes placed second in the 500 free with a season best time of 5.23.52 and placed fourth in 100 butterfly. Luke Eisenaugle placed 12th in the 50 free with a time of 25.85 and placed 10th in the backstroke with a 1:06.32.
For the Lady Tigers, Bri Wallis was eighth in the 200 free with a season best time of 2:11.94, while placing eighth in the 500 free in 5:58.08. Allison DeNero swam to a third-place finish in the 200 IM with a time of 2:27.77, and she was fourth place in the 100 butterfly.
The Men’s team placed 5th in the Sectionals, the Ladies Team finished 7th.
Additionally, Colonel Crawford will send 16 swimmers – with boys and girls equally represented – to districts after a strong performance in sectionals. The Lady Eagles won eight of 11 events. The Eagles won all three relays. Taking first individually were Callie Ruffener (100-yard free), Chloe Grove (200 and 500 free), Jillianne Gregg (50 free) and Madison Sharp (100 backstroke).
The Eagles’ Grant Pfeifer won the 200 free in 1:51.86.
Other qualifiers for the girls include Pierce Krassow, Trissa Schimpf, Megan Sharp and Kennedy Speck. For the boys are Ken Fernandez, Alex Hershey, Jake Johnson, Ryan Johnson, Nic Motter, Keton Pfeifer and Jacob Roesch.
