Blue Jackets acquire Saad in 7-player deal with Blackhawks

COLUMBUS — The Columbus Blue Jackets made their first big move of the off-season on Tuesday, acquiring left wing Brandon Saad as part of a seven-player deal with the Chicago Blackhawks.

“We’re very excited to bring Brandon Saad, a 22-year old two-time Stanley Cup champion with great size, speed, power and the ability to score goals, to our organization,” said Blue Jackets general manager Jarmo Kekalainen. “He is a proven winner and exactly the kind of player we want as a Columbus Blue Jacket.”

In 208 career regular season games, Saad, has recorded 52 goals and 74 assists for 126 points. The 22-year-old has played in 67 playoff games and totaled 15 goals and 19 assists for 34 points. He was Chicago’s fourth pick, the 43rd overall, in the 2011 NHL Draft.

Columbus also picked up defenseman Michael Paliotta and center Alex Broadhurst from Chicago in the trade.

The Blackhawks received forwards Artem Anisimov, Marko Dano, Jeremy Morin, Corey Tropp and a fourth round pick in the 2016 NHL Draft, Kekalainen said.
