Cycling Sports Center to bring crit to Galion

The Cycling Sports Center of Galion is making roadway to bring a criterium to the community for the upcomming summer.

The cycle shop is partnering with USA Cycling to host the Galion CritFest on June 11. Criterium are cycling races that last up to about two hours on a short circuit of over a mile.

The race will be held on Harding Way and neighboring roads, including Liberty, Atwood, Market and Boston with the race to finish in the square.

“This Criterium cannot happen without the support of the community and individuals who can sponsor/donate to this event,” Cycling Sports said in a letter to members of the Galion-Crestline Chamber of Commerce.

The Galion CritFest will be part of the Ohio Crit cup series, which will help draw racers and their families from all of Ohio and nearby states. Cycling Sports also expects a greater payout expecatancy to racers by adding the event to the cup series. If it can’t meet the minumum amount, the race will be pulled from the scehdule with refunds to be made, according to the business.

It’s expected to be a full-day event in Uptown Galion. Traffic will be limited to the area’s streets with streets limited to light traffic on the previous evening for road race preparation. The event will kick-off with a 5K and 10k run in the morning, followed by free kids bicycle races for ages up to 15.

Races would start at 12:15 p.m. and last until 9:30 p.m.
