Girls basketball: Buckettes defeat Redmen

The Buckeye Central girls basketball team defeated Bucyrus 61-54 in Northern 10 Athletic conference action Tuesday.

The Buckettes had a 31-19 lead over the Lady Redmen at halftime.

Buckeye Central shot 14 of 37 and made 29 of 37 free throws, while Bucyrus shot 18 of 44, making 17 of 28 free throws.

The Redmen won the second half 35-30.

Buckeye Central had 31 rebounds and 11 turnovers, while Bucyrus had 31 rebounds and 12 turnovers.

Jenna Karl led the Buckettes with 22 points, while Courtney Pifher added 12 points.

Kelci Simms led the Redmen with 19 points, while Ashton Hawkins added 14 points.

Buckeye Central (10-6, 8-5 N10) will host Colonel Crawford on Friday.

Bucyrus (7-9, 5-7 N10) will travel to play Carey on the same day.

Wynford Royals

The Wynford girls basketball team lost to Seneca East in league play Tuesday.

The Lady Royals’ record drops to 4-9 in the Northern 10 Athletic conference, and 6-11 overall.

Wynford will travel to play Upper Sandusky on Friday.

Crestline Bulldogs

The Crestline girls basketball team lost to Lucas 33-21 in Mid-Buckeye Conference action Tuesday.

The Lady Bulldogs trailed the Cubs 17-8 at halftime.

Stephanie Thomas led Crestline with 10 points including two 3-pointers. Sarah Toy had six points, while Dennesa Baker added five.

Emily Niswander led the Cubs with a game high of 12 points, while Averi Niswander dropped nine points.

Crestline (0-17, 0-10) will travel to play Mount Gilead in non-league play on Saturday.
