Galion Lady Tigers fall to North Union

It was a solid performance by the visiting North Union Lady Cats who left with a victory over the Galion Lady Tigers 47-31 in Mid Ohio Athletic Conference play.

“North Union is a solid program and it helps having someone who is 6 foot 4 inches” stated Galion Head Coach Nick Vukovich. That “someone” Coach Vukovich was referring to was North Union’s Autumn Hudson. Hudson was a dominating force for the Lady Cats who put in 19 points and was 9 for 14 from the free throw line. The second leading scorer for North Union was Devyn Feasel with 8 points.

But it didn’t stop there as turnovers and poor foul shooting also hurt Galion tonight. “We didn’t help the cause by missing free throws and turning the ball over, we had 7 turnovers in the first quarter alone” stated Galion Head Coach Nick Vukovich. Galion only made 6 out of 15 foul shots for the game.

Galion only put up 11 points in the first half compared to North Union’s 34, but the second half Galion started making their shots to try and cut into North Union’s big 23 point lead. Gracie Groves, the leading scorer for Galion, scored 6 of her 9 points by hitting three pointers. Taylor Valentine, who had 7 points, was the second leading scorer for Galion.

“The second half we started to get better as the half progressed, and in the fourth quarter we played a lot better” stated Galion Head Coach Vukovich. The North Union bench kept the lead in the double digits and proved too much for Galion to overcome.

“It’s a mindset that we have to come out ready to play all four quarters and pick up the intensity” stated Coach Vukovich.

In the JV game earlier, North Union beat Galion in overtime by a score of 32-28.
