Swimming: Galion boys take second in Saturday invite

Galion made waves at the Division II Invitational in Marion on Saturday.

The Tigers finished 2nd out of nine teams, while the Lady Tigers placed 5th out of 12 teams.

The men’s team won 8 of the 11 events. Taking first individually were Landon Rose (200-yard freestyle), Sam Rigdon (200 IM), Eli Skaggs (50, 100 free), Clay Karnes (100 butterfly, 500 free), won the 100 yd. butterfly in 1:01.35.

The boy’s medley relay team of Skaggs, Luke Eisnaugle, Rigdon and Karnes, placed 1st with a time of 1:51.87. The 200 freestyle relay team of Skaggs, Rose, Conner Lucas and Rigdon placed first with a season best of 1:36.97.

For the girls, Bri Wallis won the 500 freestyle with a season best time of 6:08.63. Galion’s girls won the 200 free relay with a season best time of 1:53.45. The swimmers were Wallis, Elise Barnhart, Sari Conner, and Allison DeNero.

“I was pleased with how well the swimmers placed in this meet. We had a many best times of the season. This is a good indication for the Championships coming up at the end of the month,” said Galion head swimming coach Ted Temple.

Galion will host to compete against Wynford on Tuesday.

Colonel Crawford Eagles

The Colonel Crawford swimming team had an impressive display at the 6th Annual Subway Invitational at Oak Harbor High School on Saturday.

The Lady Eagles placed 2nd out of 12 teams, while the boys placed 4th.

Taking first was Jake Johnson in the 200 IM.

“This meet was great competition for the team,” said Colonel Crawford swimming head coach Mike Holtzapfel.

Colonel Crawford will host its Sprint Swim Invite on Saturday.

Crestline Bulldogs

The Crestline swimming team placed second out of five teams at Shelby on Saturday.

The team had 35 points total, while Shelby placed first with 176. Wynford came in last with 18.

Courtney Wagner, Michaela Jeffrey, Kinsey Kenison and Abbi Stair placed 2nd in the 200 medley relay, while the four placed second in the 200 free relay.

Crestline will participate in the Colonel Crawford Sprint Swim Invite on Saturday.
