Cross Country: Col. Crawford boys, Northmor girls head to state

Colonel Crawford boys’ cross country team sprints to the state championship on Saturday.

The Eagles will head to the National Trail Raceway in Hebron to compete in the the Division III boys race at 1:30 p.m. The team qualified for the state race after placing fourth in the regionals at Boardman High School in the Youngstown area last Saturday.

The Northmor girls’ cross country team also advance to the state meet by placing third at the Division III regional meet at Pickerington. Northmor will run at 11 a.m. Saturday in the opening race of the state meet.

In the boys’ race, Colonel Crawford finished with 144 points, while Maplewood finished first with 46, St. Thomas Aquinas had 65 and McDonald that tallied 122.

Tristan Dahmen won the boys’ race for Maplewood in 15:41.30.

Chad Johnson ran fourth in 16:12.70 for the Eagles. Nick Studer took 29th in 17:18.90 and Brad Bauer was 44th in 17:41.50. Brandon Long ran 46th in 17:33.44 and Wade Hopkins placed 61st in 18:08.4, while Braxton James finished 107th and Brandon Bauer was 132nd.

On the other hand, Carson Pirnstill, who was the only qualifier for the regionals from Bucyrus, placed 43rd in 17:40. Only the top 16 individuals of each region can run in the state tournament.

The Lady Eagles also did not qualify for the state championship. They placed ninth in the regionals with 249 points. St. Thomas Aquinas placed first with 47 points, followed by McDonald at 65, Canton Central Catholic with 95 and Black River that had 118. The Bucyrus girls cross country team also competed in the regionals for the first time in 15 years. They finished 10th with 287 points.

Athena Welsh won the girls’ race in 18:20.99 for St. Thomas Aquinas.

For the Lady Eagles, Anna Reffey placed 22nd in 20:37.61. Courtney Britt took 44th in 21:26.97. Emily Kemper was 56th in 21:46.40 and Haley Laughbaum was 89th in 23:00.77.

Also, Taylor Price ran 99th, Courtney Lyons placed 109th and Alyssa Spears was 110th.

Shaylee Campbell placed 24th in 21:15.99 for the Lady Redmen. Julia VanVoorhis ran 49th in 21:35.30, while Mirium Everett finished 72nd in 22:33.14. Also, Desiree Sigler finished 98th in 23:26.80, while Lauren Kohler ran 102nd at 23:32.37. Kristen Vaughn was 104th and Jessica Campbell tallied 122nd.

At the Division III regional meet at Pickerington, the Northmor girls tallied 102 points to finish behind champion Garaway and second-place Fredericktown.

Rachel Wentworth won the girls’ race in 18:40.3 for Garaway.

Kristen Duryea paced the team by running sixth in 19:48.1, while Isabelle Ditullio ran 23rd in 21:02.7. Samantha Peters took 26th in 21:15.3 and Reanne McDonald placed 38th in 21:40.6. Brooke Bennett was 48th with a time of 22:06.1, while Selena Cortez ran 51st in 22:11.5 and Sydney Jennette claimed 52nd in 22:11.7.

The Northmor boys ran at the Troy regional in the Division III boys’ race, where they took 13th with 336 points to conclude their season. Anna placed first with 86, followed by Ft. Loramie at 98, Milton-Union with 125 and Botkins that tallied 129.

Brady McBride won the boys’ race in 16:06.2.

Spencer Adams led the team by running 67th in 18:05.6, while James Walker was 68th in 18:05.7 and Chase Hoover took 79th in 18:22.6.

A.J. White was 101st in 18:42.4 and Alec Moore ran 103rd in 18:46.3. Also, B.J. White was 105th in 18:53 and Collin Berg ran 116th with a time of 19:18.3.
