Chargers compete in Area 5 volleyball tourney

The Fairway-Waycraft Chargers competed in the Area 5 Volleyball Tournament on May 30 at the Ernsthausen Community Center in Norwalk.

In the first match, the Chargers took on the Hancock County Buckeyes and lost the first game of the match 25-22 and then lost the second game of the match 25-13.

In the second match, the Chargers took on the Richland County Bears and lost the first game of that match 25-17 and then lost the second game of that match 25-21.

As a result of the two losses, the Chargers finished in third place at the Area 5 Volleyball Tournament. They will complete their season with games at the Special Olympics Ohio Summer Games on June 26-28, at The Ohio State University.

The members of the Chargers Volleyball Team are Deb Dunbar, Jeremia Gale, Samantha Hart, Chris Hysell, Nate Metzger, Jackie Stuckman and Ashley Tyree. The Chargers head coach is Ron Shirkey. The assistant coach is Jim Plasencia and team mom is Judy Vinson.

Whetstone wins CAL volleyball tourney

The Clearwater Athletic League held its fourth annual volleyball tournament June 17 at Cherry Street Elementary in Mount Gilead.

In a playoff game on June 8, the Seneca Arrows defeated the Angeline Indians by scores of 25-6 and 25-17. This placed the Arrows in the championship game vs the Whetstone Cougars. This allowed the Angeline Indians to finish in third place in the modified tournament.

In the championship match, the Whetstone Cougars defeated the Seneca Arrows by scores of 15-25, 25-19, and 15-10. This allowed the Whetstone Cougars to finish in first place in the tournament, with the Seneca Arrows finishing in second place.
