Cross country: Galion boys third, girls sixth at North Union Invite

The Galion boys cross country team came in third place and the girls squad finished in sixth place last Saturday at the North Union Invitational.

Led by Zach Kreft, Buckeye Valley won the boys team title. The Barons tallied 43 points to edge Mount Gilead by seven points in the final standings. Galion recorded 107 points. Host side North Union was fourth with 122 points.

Kreft recorded a time of 15 minutes, 47.81 seconds to win the race in easy fashion. His nearest competitor was Austin Hallabrin from Mount Gilead, who finished the course in 17:01.47.

Galion’s Colin McCullough and Casey Barker each finished in the top 20. McCullough placed 12th with a time of 18:07.12. Barker came in 16th, completing the course in 18:14.28.

Lucas Conner of Galion finished 21st with a time of 18:56.09. Luke Eisnaugle placed 25th with a time of 19:05.84. Thomas Shawk was the Tigers’ fifth placer, finishing in 43rd position with a time of 19:48.69.

Carson Pirnstill of Bucyrus came in eighth place with a time of 17:48.97. The rest of the Redmen’s top five turned in the following results: Dakota Hedrick (20th, 18:42.41), Noah Johnson (22nd, 19:00.18), Kaden Wilson (51st, 20:09.94), Cody Dalton (55th, 20:20.34).

Mount Gilead won the girls race with four of its top five runners placing in the top 20. Jenna Shipman placed second with a time of 20:15.94 to lead the Indians.

Grace Mast of Johnstown-Monroe won the individual title, posting a time of 19:53.44. Johnstown-Monroe placed fourth in the team table.

Julia VanVoorhis and Mirium Everett paced Bucyrus to second place in the team results. VanVoorhis placed 10th with a time of 21:42.75. Everett was right behind in 11th place, posting a time of 21:49.72.

Following are the results for the rest of the top five for the Bucyrus team: Shaylee Campbell (13th, 21:53.91), Desiree Sigler (29th, 22:52.47), Jessica Campbell (34th, 23:22.18).

Megan Zier was Galion’s fastest runner at North Union. She came in 17th place with a time of 22:05.25.

Ashlie Sallee placed 19th, finishing the course in 22:09.56. Sari Conner finished in 27th place, recording a time of 22:48.96.

Lauren Huggins placed 43rd with a time of 24:16.24. Abby Barre came in 45th place, posting a time of 24:18.93.
