Galion seniors Katelyn Smith and Cassidy Ivy each picked up victories on Saturday at the Mid-Ohio Athletic Conference girls tennis tournament played at Buckeye Valley High School and Smith Park in Delaware.

Marion Harding claimed the team championship for the second consecutive season thanks to wins by Fallyn Stephens at first singles and Alli Russell and Maggie Pitts at second doubles. It was the second straight individual title for Stephens. The Presidents benefited from three second-place finishes at second and third singles and first doubles.

Smith finished fourth in the first singles tournament. She defeated Sarah Short of Pleasant in the first round, 6-1, 6-2, then lost to Fallyn Stephens of Marion Harding in the semifinals, 6-2, 6-1. In the third-place match, Smith lost to Arianna Phrakornkham from Buckeye Valley, 8-3.

Ivy placed fifth in the second singles tournament. She dropped her opening match to Pleasant’s Brooke Bove, 6-2, 6-4, but rebounded to defeat Brienna Garber of Buckeye Valley, 9-7, in the fifth-place match.

At third singles, Galion’s Marisa Brenich came in sixth place. She lost to Marion Harding’s Ashley Russell, 6-1, 6-0, in the first match and then dropped an 8-3 decision to Alex Garber from Buckeye Valley in the fifth-place match.

Galion’s first doubles duo Dani Court and Tori Chandler finished sixth in that tournament. Eventual doubles champs Lindsey Morris and Alexis Poulton from Buckeye Valley defeated Court and Chandler in the first round, 6-0, 6-1.
