Girls tennis: Galion’s Kaylyn Gimble places third at Sam Sabback Invitational

Galion freshman Kaylyn Gimble finished third at the Sam Sabback Invitational tennis tournament held Saturday at Bucyrus High School.

Gimble, playing third singles, earned a medal by posting victories over opponents from Marion Harding, 8-2, and Clear Fork, 8-0. She lost to Hannah Novack of St. Peter’s, 6-8. Novack finished in first place.

The Tigers finished fifth in the team standings.,

At first singles, Katelyn Smith of Galion lost both matches in which she played. She lost to a player from Marion Harding, 2-8, and dropped a match against a Upper Sandusky competitor, 3-8.

Dani Court and Tori Chandler lost their first round match at first doubles, 0-8. Kiersten Gifford and Marisa Brenich dropped their opening round match at second doubles, 0-8.

Galion plays host to Clear Fork at 4:15 p.m. on Monday at Heise Park. The Tigers play road matches on Tuesday against River Valley and on Thursday against Jonathan Alder.

The final two regular season matches will be played at Heise Park. Galion entertains Marion Harding on Sept. 22 and then meets Pleasant in the season finale on Sept. 24.

The girls Div. II sectional tournament is scheduled for Oct. 1 and 3 at Shelby High School. Tournament seeding and draws will be determined Sept. 20.
