Volleyball: Galion rallies for win over Willard

Galion erased a two-set deficit to defeat Willard, 16-25, 19-25, 25-7, 25-11, 15-9, in a non-conference volleyball match-up Saturday on the Crimson Flashes’ home court.

Taylor Valentine led Galion with 27 kills. Her stat line included 11 digs and six blocks.

Marisa Gwinner recorded 12 kills, 10 blocks and served for 13 points. She also had five digs.

Bradlee Saterfield had 44 assists. Callie Wildenthaler served for 20 points and had six digs. Kiki Staton had nine digs and eight service points.

Ashley Flowers added eight digs and six service points. Gabby Abouhassan recorded five blocks.

Galion (2-0) opens Mid Ohio Athletic Conference play on Tuesday at Pleasant. The junior varsity match starts at 5:30 p.m., followed by the varsity match at 7 p.m.

The Lady Spartans (2-0) opened the season with a 3-2 win over Bishop Ready on Aug. 24, and defeated Wynford in four sets on Aug. 27.

The Lady Tigers swept the season series with Pleasant in 2014, winning 3-0 at home and 3-1 at Pleasant.

Galion wraps up the week with a home match against Jonathan Alder on Saturday. Match time is noon.

Alder (6-0) plays host to North Union on Tuesday prior to visiting Galion.

The Lady Tigers and Lady Pioneers shared the MOAC championship in 2014. The teams split the season series with each side winning on the other’s home court.
