Northmor boys continue postseason trek

LANCASTER — The Division III Region XI track and field meet is now finished. Northmor had multiple athletes in competition at Fairfield Union High School and will have five members of the guys squad competing at the state meet.

Meechie Johnson was the first Northmor trackster to qualify for the state meet by winning the regional championship in the long jump with a distance of 21’0.5”. Meechie will be joined by James Walker, Calvin Komer and Alec Moore in the 4×400-meter relay. The foursome finished third at the regional meet with a time of 3:28.53.

Walker will also be competing in Columbus in the 300-meter high hurdles and the high jump. Walker qualified for state by placing fourth in the 300 with a time of 41.10 and fourth in the high jump, clearing 6’1”. Walker advanced in the high jump after being involved in a jump-off for fourth.

Kolton Smith earned a third place finish in the 110-hurdles in a time of 15.17 to advance to the state meet. Smith finished eighth overall in the high jump, clearing 5’10”.

For the Lady Knights, no state berths came from their regional qualifiers.

Hope Miracle took home the highest placement for Northmor by finishing fifth in the pole vault with a height of 9’. Brooke Bennett finished eighth overall in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:02.10.

Jessica Duryea crossed the finish line in 5:58.58 in the 1600-meter run to finish 10th while teammate Julianna Ditullio jumped a distance of 13’6” and finished 15th.

The guys from Northmor will be headed off to Jesse Owens next Friday and Saturday to clash for state honors in their respective events.
