Several Crawford swimmers earn district berths

MANSFIELD — On Saturday Feb. 11, the Colonel Crawford swim teams took to the Frank Bartholow Natatorium at Malabar Middle School in Mansfield to compete in the sectional swimming tournament. On the line was a trip to Bowling Green State University to compete for district honors. Finals are set to start at 3 pm.

The Lady Eagles will be sending three of their swimmers in individual races and all three of their relay teams to swim to Bowling Green.

Qualifying for districts for Colonel Crawford were: Jillianne Gregg in two events, the 50-yard freestyle and the 100-yard butterfly. Gregg was the sectional champion in the 50-free (25.21) and fifth in the fly (1:08.00). Pierce Krassow also qualified in the 50-yard freestyle and the 100-yard freestyle to continue her postseason run. P.Krassow took sixth overall in the 50 (26.15) and fifth in the 100 (57.75). Drew Krassow is moving on in the 100-yard breaststroke after finishing in second place with a time of 1:12.44. The 200-yard medley relay, 200-yard freestyle and 400-yard freestyle relays will also take to the pool on Friday with a chance at advancing to the state swimming championships. Crawford took second place overall in the 200-medley relay (1:57.73), second in the 200-free relay (1:46.16) and second in the 400-free relay (4:12.22).

50-yard freestyle: 9. Hailey Ratliff and 12. Chloe Carman; 100-yard freestyle: 13. D.Krassow, 36. Madisyn Cooke and 39. Courtney Britt; 200-yard freestyle: 11. Lexie Hillman, 14. Raye Hershey, 22. Izzie Stalter and 23. Dakota Quail; 500-yard freestyle: 7. Karlie Kurtzman, 8. Kennedy Speck, 10. Hillman and 18. Macie Dicus.

100-yard backstroke: 9. Kurtzman, 13. Reegyn Goyer, 15. Katie Jones and 22. Olivia Marks; 100-yard breaststroke: 7. Carman, 9. Speck and 13. Taylor Price; 100-yard butterfly: 9. Hershey and 11. Alana Burkhart; 200-yard individual medley: 12. Dicus, 13. Burkhart and 14. Jones.

The boys squad from Colonel Crawford will have three distict qualifiers on the individual level as well. Jake Johnson will see the pool on Friday to compete in the 50-yard freestyle and the 100-yard breaststroke. J.Johnson took third in the 50-free (23.12) and second in the 100-breast (1:03.85). Nic Motter finished third in the 200-yard individual medley (2:17.04) and third in the 500-yard freestyle (5:18.87) to qualify for districts. Ken Fernandez will be moving on to action on Friday after his sixth place finish in the 500-free (5:38.36). The Eagles will also be sending their 200-yard and 400-yard freestyle relay teams to Bowling Green. Crawford’s 200-free relay finished sixth with a time of 1:41.27 to advance while the 400-free relay team grabbed fifth in a time of 3:39.47.
