Eagles, Tigers split dual swim meet

NORTH ROBINSON — On Tuesday, the Colonel Crawford Eagles welcomed the Galion Tigers to town for a dual swim meet. The teams would split the meet; with the Eagles’ girls squad winning 67-27 and the Tigers’ boys team winning 69-25.

The girls from Colonel Crawford would win nine of the 11 events for the match. The team of Madison Sharp, Kennedy Speck, Jillianne Gregg and Hailey Ratliff would start the meet off with a victory in the 200 yard medley relay in a time of 2:02.76. Gregg would also finish first in the 100 yard butterfly (1:05.38) and the 100 yard backstroke (1:11.76). Sharp would also gain an individual victory in the 50 yard freestyle with a time of 26.88. Speck grabbed first place in the 100 yard breaststroke, finishing in 1:18.03. Ratliff was joined by Chloe Carman, Sharp and Krassow to take first in the 200 yard freestyle relay in a time of 1:51.65. Swapping out Sharp for Gregg, the same group would take out Galion in the 400 yard freestyle in 4:16.12.

Pierce Krassow was the other individual winner on the day for the Eagles. Krassow took first in the 200 yard freestyle (2:12.93) and the 100 yard freestyle (59.53).

Allison DeNero and Bri Wallis were the lone winners for the Galion squad. DeNero took first in the 200 yard individual medley in a time of 2:32.04. Wallis finished first in the 500 yard freestyle event, completing the race in 6:16.94.

It was also nine event wins to two on the boys side of the dual but with the teams switched.

Galion’s 200 yard medley relay team kicked of a successful meet for the Tigers. The team of Caleb Strack, Sam Rigdon, Clay Karnes and Eli Skaggs took first place in a time of 1:48.63. Karnes and Skaggs would also grab two individual wins throughout the day. Karnes won the 200 and 500 yard freestyle events. He took the 200 yard event in 2:01.41 and the 500 in 5:23.37. Skaggs won the 200 yard individual medley (2:10.23) and the 100 yard butterfly (57.79). Strack grabbed an individual victory in the 100 yard backstroke (59.19) while Rigdon won the 100 yard freestyle (53.15).

The 200 yard freestyle relay squad of Skaggs, Landon Rose, Luke Eisnaugle and Rigdon took first, finishing with a time of 1:37.23. Another relay victory was grabbed in the 400 yard freestyle by the team of Karnes, Rose, Alec Dicus and Strack, finishing in 3:51.96.

Jake Johnson was the only individual winner from the Colonel Crawford Eagles. Johnson was first in the 100 yard breaststroke (1:05.87) and the 50 yard freestyle event (22.87).

The season for the Eagles continues on Thursday Dec.8 when they play host to the Lexington Minutemen. Galion will welcome Pleasant to the YMCA on Thursday to compete in MOAC action.
