BELLEVUE — The season is now underway for the Galion Tigers volleyball team. Galion traveled to Bellevue on Tuesday to meet up with Bellevue in a non-conference matchup.

Coach Jamie Valentine and her squad started out strong, winning a very tough first set by the score of 26-24. However, that would be the final “W” of the day for the Tigers. The Lady Redmen would go on to take the next three sets: 24-26, 16-25 and 20-25.

On the defensive side of the net, the Tigers were able to put together 11 blocks, 6 of which came from junior Marissa Gwinner. When the attack came from Bellevue, Galion was able record 47 digs. Sophomore Kasidee Sinclair (11) and senior Morgan Gregory (9) lead the way in that statistic for the team.

Offensively, Valentine’s group was able to put together 40 kills. Gwinner was also a force to be dealt with on offense, racking up 15 of the 40 kills. Senior Gabby Abouhassan added 10 kills while Sinclair smacked down 7. Most of the point scoring on the volley was assisted by Gregory who racked up 32 of the team’s 33 assists in the match.

When it came to serving, Galion was able to record 4 aces on the day and finish with a 90.6% serving percentage. Key servers for the match were Gwinner (10/10), Sinclair (14/15) and senior Dusty Thomas (12/13).
