Crawford County athletes advance to state

The Colonel Crawford girls and track field team placed second in the regionals at the Ohio High School Athletic Association’s Division III Region 11 meet at Fairfield Union High School in Lancaster on Thursday.

Mount Gilead won with 55 points, followed by the Lady Eagles (47), Reed. Eastern (40), Portsmouth (34), New London (33.5), St. Paul (31), Sard. Eastern (27) and Adena (26). Bucyrus was 28th with 7 points, while Wynford placed 30th with 6.

The Colonel Crawford girls’ 100 meter relay team of Alyssa Spears, Kendra Koge, Kirsten Vehrs and Callie Ruffener placed second in 51.17.

Ruffener placed second in 300 meter hurdles in 45.92, while Vehrs was the runner-up in 46.95. Ruffener placed first in the pole vault at 11 feet, 6 inches.

For the Lady Royals, Margaret Willford placed fourth in the girls long jump at 15 feet, 5 inches.

And for the Lady Redmen, Kelci Simms placed third in the shot put at 36 feet, 8 inches.

The Northmor boys finished 12th overall with 23 points and sent another competitor to the state meet on Friday, as James Walker finished fourth in the high jump after clearing 6’2”.

Collin Berg took sixth in the 300 hurdles in 41.61, while Demetrius Johnson took eighth in the 200 in 23.31. Kolton Smith placed eighth in the 110 hurdles in 16.17 and also was 10th in the high jump. Also, Spencer Adams ran 14th in the 1600.

For Northmor’s girls, Karalee Patterson tied for eighth in the pole vault, clearing 8’. Isabelle Ditullio finished 12th in the 3200.

Division III at Tiffin

The Colonel Crawford boys track and field team placed ninth in the regionals at the Ohio High School Athletic Association’s Division III Region 10 meet at Tiffin High School on Thursday.

The Eagles tallied 27 points out of 42 schools. Eastwood won with 48 points, followed by Sandusky St. Mary Central Catholic (46), Wynford (41), Columbus Grove (38), Liberty Center (38), Waynesfield-Goshen (37.5), Montpelier (36) and Arcadia (32). Bucyrus placed 28th with seven points.

The top four placers make it to the state championship meet at Ohio State University in Columbus June 3-4.

State qualifiers for the Eagles were Chad Johnson who took first in the 3200 meter run in 9:26.96. Owen Adams qualified for the state after placing fourth in the long jump at 21 feet, 1.75 inches.

For Wynford, Cole Fortner placed second in the 100 meter dash (10.86). He qualified in the 200 meter dash after placing second in 22.15.

The Royals’ 200 meter relay team of Fortner, Robbie Miller, Tony Watson and Alizhah Watson finished first in 1:30.44. The 100 relay team of Fortner, Miller, Alizhah and Tony also placed first in 43.27.

There were no state qualifiers for the Redmen but Harley Robinson came close after he placed fifth in the high jump (6 feet).
