Wynford win clinches N10 title

The Wynford baseball team clinched the Northern 10 Athletic Conference title by beating Bucyrus 6-0 at Bucyrus.

“This was the first goal of the season was to win the conference outright,” said Wynford head coach Joe Staab.

Wynford jumped on top early by putting up runs in the first three innings and leading by a score of 4-0. In the sixth inning, Wynford added on their last two runs to make the score 6-0.

Wynford racked up 8 hits in the game with doubles from Jalon Brown and Alex Crall who also had 2 singles. Other multi-hit batters for Wynford were Wyatt Smith and Blake Williamson.

Qyenton Stone pitched a two hitter, striking out 6 while only walking 1 batter.

“Qyenton has been so dominate,” Staab said. “He commands his zone and is going to challenge you in making you hit and not have many walks.”

That was what kept the Bucyrus bats mostly quiet.

“When we hit the ball, it was up in the air and those are the easiest ones to field and that was due to Qyenton Stone,” Bucyrus head coach Sean Maudsley said.

Putting up a nice lead in the beginning of the game is always nice for a team as momentum is key.

“It was very important to come out early and get on top and command our game” Staab said. “In the game of baseball, once the momentum swings one way or another the game can go downhill or can be more of a challenge.”

Now for both Wynford and Bucyrus it is all tournament play.

Wynford will be playing Plymouth on Wednesday and Coach Staab is ready: “From here on out is win and advance or lose and go home.”

Bucyrus will be playing Clear Fork on Thursday.

“I think we are due for an uptrend,” Maudsley said. “We are not getting guys on base and we have to get guys on base. It does concern me, but I have seen us pop out of it before.”
