Baseball: Galion defeats Marion Harding

With a cloudy and windy day for baseball, and the rain on its way, the Galion baseball team traveled to play conference foe Marion Harding and took the win by a score of 4-3.

Taking the mound for the Tigers was Matt Hardy. He seemed to have somewhat of a rough day with batters getting on base and threatening to score.

“Matt struggled a little bit today getting that first out which is so crucial in high school baseball,” Galion Head Coach Phil Jackson said.

Hardy did end up throwing for 4 innings giving up 4 hits and 2 runs. Hardy also struck out 7 batters with only walking 2 batters.

Marion Harding got on the scoreboard first as they scored 2 runs in their half of the first inning. Galion rallied back in the top of the second inning scoring 3 runs for themselves.

The third and fourth innings were scoreless innings for both teams until the fifth inning when both teams scored 1 run.

Garrett Kuns came in for the relief in the fourth inning and pitched a solid 3 innings. He gave up only 1 run on 3 hits. He struck out 3 batters with only walking 1 batter.

“Surprisingly, his off speed stuff wasn’t working today as he was down to a fastball pitcher, but he was spotting the ball really well,” Jackson said.

Devin Baughn was the leading hitter for Galion going 2 for 2 with 2 singles, a RBI, and scoring a run.

“It was a good win when we didn’t play our best,” Jackson said. “We weren’t sharp, but we were sharp enough.”

Galion’s record improves 4-1 overall and 3-0 in the Mid Ohio Athletic Conference.
