Bench pressing records

KENTON — Galion junior Kylie Redman had a record setting month of March in powerlifting. She set the girls middleweight bench press record of 172.5 pounds at the Bucyrus Powerlifting meet on March 5. She also deadlifted 315 pounds. The following weekend she set the state record with a press of 175 pounds at at a body weight of 150 pounds at the 29th Annual State Powerlifting Meet in Kenton. Redman runs track for Galion.

Galion tennis team defated

GALION — The Galion boys tennis team hosted Clear Fork at Hesie Park on Saturday. The Tigers losing streak continues after it lost a 2-3 match.

Its record falls to 0-3 on the season.

Tanner Amos at one singles lost 1-6 and 0-6. Lucas Conner at 2 singles lost 4-6 and 2-6.

Tristan Baldy at 3 singles continued his winning ways with a tough 4-6, 6-1 and 6-0 win to improve to 3-0 on the season. First doubles team of Landon Rose/Tyler Harris lost 3-6 and 0-6. Second doubles team of Matt Sparks/Nic Oehler picked up the second win for Galion with a very tough match ( 6-7, 7-6, tie break 7-5 and 7-5).

Bucyrus softball leagues

BUCYRUS — There will be meeting about two softball leagues at the Bucyrus City Hall Council Chambers 6 p.m. on April 10. The leagues will be a Friday Nite Men’s Softball League and a Sunday Co-ed league and will be sanctioned by the National Softball Association. The deadline to enter will be April 25. Bluftton splits over Manchester

NORTH MANCHESTER, Ind. — The Bluffton University baseball team broke out the bats to get the monkey off their backs with a 10-4 victory over Manchester University to open the doubleheader on Sunday. The Beavers fell, 18-4, in the rubber game of the three-game set. Bluffton’s record now sits at 6-14 and 1-6 in HCAC play, while Manchester is 11-10 and 5-3 in conference action.

In the opener, Bluffton started the scoring early, as Austin Prosser of Galion got on base after being hit by a pitch and he crossed the dish on an error from the Spartans to put the Beavers up, 1-0.

In the first game, Prosser was at bat five times with two runs, two hits and three runs batted in. In the second game, he was at bat four times with a hit.

Track and Field

HANOVER, Ind. — The Heidelberg University track & field teams had a strong showing at the Hanover Invitational on Saturday. The women’s team finished third and the men’s team took fourth.

Northmor grad, Heidelberg junior Dani Blum of Galion finished third in the Women’s 3000 meter steeplechase in 12:12.12.

Former coach honored

COLUMBUS — Steve Gray of Norwalk was presented with the prestigious Paul Walker Award at the state boys basketball tournament, according to the Columbus Dispatch. He started coaching at Ridgedale, then coached at Lexington and Colonel Crawford before landing at Norwalk. His record is 379-233.

International Soccer at OSU

COLUMBUS — Tickets went on sale Tuesday for the International Soccer match between Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain at Ohio Stadium on July 27. The match is part of the 2016 International Champions Cup. Go to www.ohiostatebuckeyes.com to purchase tickets and more information.
