Thanks to all who helped with Pickle Run

Dear Community,

For the first time in 17 years, Galion had a Pickle Run festival – and what a festival it was!

Thank you to everyone who attended the event or participated in any of the activities that were planned over the beautiful Fourth of July weekend.

On Saturday, more than 150 runners and walkers competed in the YMCA’s 5K and donated to Community Action’s food bank. Nearly 100 kids took part in the NFL Punt, Pass and Kick. Four teams helped mark the return of “Anything Goes” by riding tricycles, munching on pickles, and running an obstacle course with three legs.

On Sunday, the Golden Age Center’s car and motorcycle show tripled last year’s turnout. The parade through Heise Park was a success and the Galion Graders baseball team saw a record crowd for its game.

There are many thanks to give to all of the organizations and individuals who made Pickle Run 2015 a success: The City of Galion, Galion City Schools, Galion Community Center YMCA, Boy Scout Troop 304, Galion Golden Age Center, Galion Rotary Club, My Pro Apparel, the food vendors, and all of the businesses and organizations that set up activity booths.

And a huge thanks to all of the volunteers who helped this weekend. Some of them paid money out of their own pockets for event materials and promotional items.

Pickle Run t-shirts sold out quickly but we can order more if there is enough interest. Please message our Facebook page, “Baseball, Fireworks, and Pickle Run,” with your name, phone number and shirt size if you would like one.

A lot of work went into planning the Pickle Run and we received positive feedback from countless festival goers. However, the Planning Committee is aware that there is room for improvement for next year’s event.

There will be a wrap-up meeting soon to discuss what worked, what didn’t work, and ideas on how to make future festivals even better. Keep an eye on our Facebook page for details on the meeting. Feedback can also be emailed to [email protected].

See you next year!
