Galion continues to pick up more sports events and that’s something that should be celebrated in the city.

In addition to a Senior PBA Tour event held in the spring at Victory Lanes and the Galion Graders collegiate baseball team in the summer at Heise Park, The Cycling Sports Center of Galion is partnering with USA Cycling to host the Galion CritFest on June 11. Criterium are cycling races that last up to about two hours on a short circuit of over a mile.

The race will be held on Harding Way and neighboring roads, including Liberty, Atwood, Market and Boston with the race to finish in the square. It’s a full-day event with a 5K and 10k run as well as bicycle races for kids.

The event is expected to attract racers and families from all of Ohio and nearby states.

Cycling Sports also expects a greater payout expectancy to racers by adding the event to the cup series. If it can’t meet the minimum amount, the race will be pulled from the schedule with refunds to be made, according to the business.

“This Criterium cannot happen without the support of the community and individuals who can sponsor/donate to this event,” Cycling Sports said in a letter to members of the Galion-Crestline Chamber of Commerce.

Businesses and other city leaders need to take advantage of this way to being in a new event to Galion. This is a great way of bringing people and money to the city.

Economic development shouldn’t just be a discussion held by city officials. Others need to take part to see things happen.
