The mayor wants to add another person to the payroll, but some of us have concerns.
A law was drafted to gather $44,000. Auditor Treisch actually yelled at me in the meeting for using that amount. (38:30).
The mayor is also upset that I used this number, but his final total comes out even higher at over $58,000 including insurance (38:40).
Our mayor is very thin-skinned and insecure. He takes criticism, or any kind of disagreement, as a personal attack. He fears plots and schemes against himself where there are none (33:00, 40:15).
If you question something, he tries to intimidate you into submission. He’ll say things in public meetings that are meant to embarrass and bully you to make you back down. He interrupts you (41:40, 41:55, 41:08). He groans, and assumes pouting, impatient postures. This isn’t the way grown-ups act.
What ever happened to dialogue and compromise? These are the things we are supposed to use to reach an agreement, but you can hear the mayor in this committee meeting saying that they didn’t need to listen to one council member’s polite concerns since the other members didn’t agree. For him, dialogue is a negative. (32:20, 34:34, 39:55).
Three different people expressed concern about the proposal, and made some suggestions for ways to compromise on the issue, but he accused us of making demands and trying to block his idea. He is the one making demands and blocking with his out-of-hand rejection of compromise. (39:45).
