Thanks to those who took part in baby shower

Editor,

Crawford County Help Me Grow, a Division of Crawford County Public Health, would like to send a huge thank you to everyone who participated in our Healthy Mom, Healthy Baby Community Baby Shower. The shower was made possible through a mini grant from the SID Network of Ohio. Ohio ranks nationally 48th in infant mortality.

To combat Ohio’s unacceptable rate, new programs and safe sleep initiatives have emerged. Help Me Grow wanted to do our part to spread the word of the ABC’s of safe sleep – Sleep your baby Alone, on its Back in a bare naked Crib. The event was held at Good Hope Lutheran Church, Bucyrus, Ohio. Expectant and new mom’s received a gift bag of a “This Side Up” onesie, Sleep Baby safe and snug book, rattle and diaper container.

In addition to a Safe Sleep presentation, participates learned about breastfeeding and the importance of skin to skin contact, how to stay fit while pregnant and following childbirth, and received infant massage demonstrations. Thanks to a $200.00 donation from Bucyrus Lions Club, each family also received a smoke alarm as well as fire safety tips from Steve Sargel from Bucyrus Fire Department.

Representatives from AVITA Health, BORN, Crawford County Public Health, Galion City Health Department, Marion Technical College, Maryhaven, YWCA Childcare Resource & Referral, Voice of Hope, and Stephen Ministries were on hand to share about their services and provide a safe sleep fact as shower guests visited their displays. Several door prizes were also provided through the grant and agency donation. We again thank everyone who made the event possible!
