Forty local hoopsters participated in the annual Free Throw Competition, held at St. Joe’s Activity Center on Wednesday night. The Knights of Columbus sponsors the competition, open to kids age nine to 14. Participants are divided into age groups and shoot a basketball from the free throw line 15 times. Everyone receives a certificate, and a winner for each age group is chosen, according to the number of baskets made, and receives a plaque.

Wednesday night’s winners will compete in the district competition next Saturday, and those winners then advance to regional competition. This all culminates into the 2014 Free Throw Championship, a national contest that the organization has been putting on for decades as a free youth activity. (Inquirer photos/Matt Echelberry)
