Friends of the Big Four Depot hosted a large Lincoln Highway Buy-Way event on the Big Four Depot grounds the weekend of August 7, 8 and 9.
Visitors to the event roamed through approximately 20 vendor options that included yard sales, small business booths featuring jewelry and other handmade crafts, original artwork, jam and jelly tasting, and a photo display of depot and local railroad history. Kettle corn, hot dogs and brats, and home made ice cream were available from food vendors.
Weather for the three days was fantastic and the crowd was also pleasured by a musical performance by the Galion Alumni Band on Saturday and up to seven trains rolling through each day.
All proceeds went into the Friends of the Big Four Depot‘s preservation and improvement fund, and will be used as needed for that effort and showcasing the Depot.
The Galion Historical Society, who oversees the Depot group, was on hand to offer memberships and answer questions about local history. Galion Rotary Club also had a booth.
The Friends of the Big Four Depot will have a display at the 165th Anniversary of the Big Four Railroad in Oxford and Brown Townships and points north and south to be held Saturday, Aug. 16 from 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Oxford Township Hall, 5125 Shoemaker Road, Ashley, Ohio. This is two miles south of Ahsley, off Route 42.
This event will also feature railroad memorablia, a re-enactment of the Golden Spike ceremony (originally occuring in 1851), a variety of displays, a model train display, book signings, and guest speakers.
The Friends of the Big Four Depot would like to thank City of Galion officials and anyone who helped contribute in any way to the success of the Buy-Way event.
