“We have good numbers out. Most of the girls can be effective in several events,” stated Mark Yaussy, 18-year head coach of the Lady Golden Knights track and field squad.

A year ago, the Black-and-Gold claimed a Mid Ohio Athletic Conference championship. Gone from that team because of graduation are state-qualifiers Kris Pfister (shot put), distance runner Dan Blum, and sprinter Tayler Coulson.

Key performers returning are state-qualifiers Tia Downard and Ally Tupps, plus Lauren Bond, Isabelle Ditullio and Alisa Pletcher.

Prospects being counted on are Kristen Duryea, Amanda Dykiel and Brook Mayes.

“We lost last year’s best thrower, distance (runner) and sprinter,” Yaussy mentioned. “We have good numbers, but we have a lot of inexperience.”

Goals the veteran mentor would like to see his team accomplish?

“We look to improve each week and look to peak at the end of the season,” he responded.

Regarding the MOAC competition, he llisted Mount Gilead and Fredericktown as “the teams to beat.”
