“We will be young with not much experience this year,” stated Galion High School boys’ tennis team head coach Bob Roesch of the 2014 edition of the Tigers.
The Orange-and-Blue return five lettermen from a year ago, but none of them have significant experience when it comes to tennis. The lettermen are Alex Barker, Caleb Ivy, Sam Maddox, J.D. Smith and Will Starr. Roesch is counting on them, as well as newcomers Lucas Connor, Nic Oehler, and Landon Rose to fill the seven slots — three singles and two doubles team. “We have three freshmen who will be battling for the open positions,” Roesch said. Another first-year player — senior Dan Van Vliet — is also expected to challenge for playing time.
“Our goal this year is to be more competitive in our matches and play with added concentration,” noted Roesch. “We hope to gain confidence as the season progresses. Sam Maddox will be our number-one singles. The rest of the spots will be challenged for as we get int o the season. (I’m) looking forward to a great season.”
This is the final year of existence for the North Central Conference. The Tigers will begin competing in the Mid Ohio Athletic Conference next school year.
