Five Lady Tigers and four Tigers have moved on to district swim competition via their performances at the Division II sectional meet last weekend.

The boys placed third out of 11 teams at the sectional, and three of the Tigers garnered individual sectional championships. Senior Zane Ekin was tops in the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:05.04 and is seeded second for the Northwest District Championship to be held at Cleveland State University later this week. Zane was also third in the 100 butterfly at 56.77 and is seeded fourth in the district.

Chad Karnes swam his way to a sectional title in the 200 freestyle with a clocking of 1:52.14, good enough for a third seed at district. In addition, the junior took third in the 500 freestyle in 5:10.61 and is seeded fourth this week.

Another junior — Sam DeNero — garnered the sectional crown in the 50 freestyle with a faring of 22.41. He is seeded fourth in the district. Also in the sectional, Sam finished third in the 100 freestyle in 51.19, earning him the eighth seed at the district meet.

Also, DeNero, Ekin and Karnes teamed up with junior Logan Amos to place second in the 200 free relay at 1:34.04, earning them a district fourth seed. The same quartet secured third place in the sectional 200 medley relay in 1:46.71 and are seeded sixth in the district.

For the Lady Tigers, who were fourth out of 12 teams in the sectional, Kennedy Gregg was fifth in the 100 backstroke with a personal best 1:05.08, earning her an 11th seed in the district. Caroline Shifley placed fifth in the 100 butterfly and seventh in the 200 individual medley. She is seeded 22nd in the latter and 26th in the former in the district.

Another Lady Tiger — Samantha Altstadt — was eighth in the 100 backstroke in the district and is seeded 25th in the district.

Also, the 200 medley relay quartet of Gregg, Shifley, Elizabeth Valentine and Briana Wallis advances to the district after placing sixth in the sectional with a mark of 2:05.22. They are seeded 19th in the district.
