NORTH ROBINSON — The GHS boys swam to the North Central Conference championship Wednesday in the league meet held here, and the Lady Tigers were second behind the Lady Eagles of Colonel Crawford.


Team scores in the boys’ meet were: Galion, 298; Colonel Crawford, 270; Upper Sandusky, 226; Bucyrus, 110; Wynford, 96; and Crestline, 6. Buckeye Central and Riverdale did not field teams.


In the girls’ meet, it was host Colonel Crawford, 298; Galion, 265; Wynford, 190; Upper Sandusky, 178; Bucyrus, 139; and Crestline, 7.


Sam DeNero and Zane Ekin were the top performers for the champion Tigers. DeNero placed first in the 50 freestyle (22.69) and the 100 freestyle (52.35), and Ekin won the 200 individual medley (2:08.28) plus the 100 butterfly (57.74). Also scoring first-place points for the locals was Chad Karnes in the 200 freestyle (1:54.71). Karnes took second in the 500 freestyle, and teamed up with DeNero, Ekin and Logan Amos to win the 200 medley relay (1:50.14) as well as the 200 freestyle relay (1:35.65).


Garnering third-place tallies for the winners were: Tanner Amos, 50 freestyle; plus Tanner Amost, Alex Barker, John Finch and Evan Zumbro in the 400 freestyle relay.


Top performers for the runner-up Lady Orange-and-Blue were: Molly Barker, second in the 200 freestyle and the 500 freestyle; Kennedy Gregg, second in the 100 backstroke and fourth in the 100 freestyle; and Caroline Shifley, third in the 200 individual medley and 100 butterfly. Brianna Wallis claimed third in the 100 freestyle.


Too, the 200 medley relay quartet of Gregg, Elizabeth Valentine, Shifley and Wallis was second; and the 400 freestyle relay squad of Sam Altstadt, Gregg, Shifley and Wallis was third; as was the 200 freestyle relay group of Altstadt, Barker, Valentine and Callie Wildenthaler.


Securing All-NCC honors via their performances for the boys were: Logan Amos, Tanner Amos, Barker, DeNero, Ekin, Finch, Karnes and Zumbro. Doing the same for the Lady Tigers were: Altstadt, Barker, Gregg, Shifley, Valentine, Wallis and Wildenthaler.


The Tigers and Lady Tigers will be preparing for next week’s sectional competition.
