The Ohio Athletic Commision’s 2013 Youth Football State Championships played at Sandusky High School last weekend saw the Galion 10-and-under squad place second.
On Saturday, the young Tigers Galion beat the North Ridgeville Mini Rangers 30-0. The next opponent was last year’s champions, the Olentangy Seminoles. The locals pounded them 28-8 to earn a trip to the finals on Sunday against the Trotwood Wee Rams.
Trotwood — which had won the national championship in Tennessee two weeks prior to the OAC tournament — beat the Streetsboro Rockets and Keystone on Saturday, to earn their spot in the championship game.
The championship game was a tight contest from beginning to end. The Tigers were behind 12-6 and driving for the tying or go-ahead score, with under a minute to go, when a turnover was forced by Trotwood to preserve the hard fought win.
