Local winners of the 2013-14 Lions International Peace Poster Contest were honored at the November Colonel Crawford Lions Club dinner meeting. Three William Crawford Intermediate School students and their families were recognized, with the students receiving certificates and monetary awards.

The contest encourages young people to think about peace, creatively express what it means to them and share their own unique visions with the world. The theme of this year’s contest was “Our World, Our Future.”

First place winner was Madelyn Massie. She is the daughter of Jennifer Massie of Bucyrus and Jeffrey Massie of Tiro. Her poster was forwarded to the Lions District 13B level competition and will be on display at their convention in Westlake, Ohio. Earning second place was Celeste Nunez, daughter of Estela and Juan Nunez of Sulphur Spring. Alana Burkhart, third place winner, is the daughter of Dan and RaDenna Burkhart of Bucyrus.

The twenty-sixth annual Lions International Peach Poster Contest emphasizes the importance of world peace to young people everywhere. Posters are judged on originality, artistic merit and expression of the theme. Internationally, one grand prize winner and 23 merit award winners will be selected. Grand prize includes a cash award of $5000 and a trip for the winner and two family members to a special award ceremony. Approximately 375, 000 students enter the contest yearly, and about 70 students participated locally.
