34th Annual Trash Bash set for April 26, 2014

A cellophane wrapper from a sandwich at a fast food restaurant and an empty plastic beverage container sit along the side of the road. If left untouched, they each would take more than 400 years to decompose.

Founded in 1980 by the Morrow County Litter Prevention Program Trash Bash was started with support from the Morrow County Commissioners and the Morrow County Township Trustees to clean Morrow County roadways of unwanted, unhealthy and unattractive debris.

Trash Bash has experienced tremendous growth over its 34-year history. Since 1980, more than 17,500 volunteers have collected more than 2,000 tons of trash and more than 8,000 tires.

In 2013 alone, more than 740 volunteers cleaned 132 miles of roadway; collected more than 1200 bags of trash and gathered 483 tires for recycling. We look forward to another successful year and invite you to join in our efforts.

Families, clubs, schools, businesspersons and everyone in between are invited to join us to make the 34th Annual Trash Bash the best yet! Interested persons should register by contacting Louann Holmes at the Morrow County Health Department by calling (419) 947-1545 ext. 315 or emailing Louann.Holmes@odh.ohio.gov. Once registered, group leaders can make an appointment to pick-up supplies to aid in their efforts, including: gloves, trash bags, vests and educational materials.

Already a road walker? If you’re going to be walking the roads anyway, why not keep it clean? Every step counts. Call the Recycling Promotion and Litter Prevention Office today to get your gear and make your walk more beautiful.

The collection of Trash Bash litter will be held Saturday, April 26, 2014 at the Morrow County Fairgrounds from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM in conjunction with Household Hazardous Waste. Participants may hold their roadside collection at the time most convenient for them.
