Members of Galion’s North End Garden Club plant and maintain a bed of annual plants at the east end of Heise Park, along Gill Avenue.
This year’s planting is an example of making good use of a small space for flowers, herbs and vegetables. For example, tomato plants, kohlrabi, swiss chard and lettuce are clustered at the southern end of the bed, with herbs primarily at the north end, and flowers between. Tomatoes are also planted among the gladiolus, an example of “edible landscaping.”
NEGC is holding a guest night on August 11; contact Mary Ellen Heacock at 419-468-6353 for more information.
