Leesville Grange News

Leesville Grange #2078/Crawford County Pomona Grange #36 met at Jefferson Twp. Fire Dept. on Tuesday, June 3, 2014 at 7:30 PM. Master/President Donald Graf presided over the meeting. Chaplain Dorothy Eckert offered prayer followed by the Pledge of Allegiance to the American flag.

The Legislative report was a report on earthquakes caused by fracking and rate hikes on Affordable Care Act in future enrollments. The Legislative conference will be held at the Ohio State Grange office on June 14.

The Family Activities Chairperson reported on new recipe suggestions being asked for by the State Directors. A report was made on the Spring Fling recently held.

The Deaf Activities was an article read on a new law for people with disabilities.

Donation was taken for Filling Home of Mercy in Napoleon.

Membership reported that membership application blanks will be available at the Crawford County Fair outside the display booth.

Donations were made to Ohio State Fair Culinary Showcase, Dogs for the Deaf, Friendly Hills Camp, Ohio State Grange Convention, and Lecturer, Deaf, Youth and Junior Funds. Donation toward purchase of fireworks for Crestline 4th of July and Relay for Life.

Communications were newsletters from Crawford Park District and Filling Home of Mercy. Delegate certificate for Ohio State Grange convention were received for Don Graf and Kathie Burkman.

Lecturer’s Program theme for the evening was “June is National Dairy Month. We Celebrate All Products Made from Milk”.

Memorial service theme “Grange Members May Be Gone But Will Reunite in a Better World With The Great Creator”. The deceased Grange member from this previous year was Russell Lutz remembered by the lighting of a candle.

On Tuesday, June 17, Crawford County Pomona potluck picnic as Lowe-Volk Park at 6:30 PM. Bring covered dish to share. Program by Crawford Park District Director, Bill Fisher.

The monthly meeting of the Crawford County - Salon # 390, Eight and Forty

met on May 11, 2014 in Ashland,Ohio in the Buehler’s Restaurant. The meeting was called to order in ritualistic form by Petit Chapeau, Jeanie Gibson. Answering roll call were six partners. The La Secretaire-Caissiere read the minutes of the previous meeting and gave the financial report. Nurses Scholarship was collected. Discussion was held and all officers from last year have agreed to retain their office for the coming year.

The annual Memorial Service had to be postponed till the June meeting. The indoor picnic will be held June 11,2014 at the home of Judy and Chuck Diederich, 1830 W. Southern Ave., Bucyrus, Ohio. starting at 12:30pm. Beverage and Meat will be furnished by the Salon. Partners are to bring 1-2 covered dishes. Being no further business, the meeting was adjourned in ritualistic form.

Daughters of Union Vets

The Daughters of Union Veterans of the Civil War, Tent 91, Galion, met for its regular meeting Tuesday, June 3, 2014, at the home of Lois Rinehart. President, Cathy Brown, was in charge of the meeting.

Relief report included: 25 flowers for deceased, 1 flower for the ill, 22 personal visits, 85 cheer cards sent and 157 volunteer hours.

Final last minute details were discussed for the upcoming Ohio Department Convention June 20-22, 2014.

For the “Good of the Order” Marilyn Sipes read an article called “God Bless America: The Only Flag That Doesn’t Fly”. It was about a flag made of many, many flowers. We also played Civil war Trivia.

Mystery gift was won by Cathy Brown. Refreshments were served by Melanie Baker. Next meeting will be held July 1, with Cathy Brown as hostess.
