Heidelberg University has announced the winners of major scholarships following the university’s annual scholarship competition earlier this academic year. Among the Class of 2020 scholarship recipients are the following local/area students:

Megan Gwirtz, a senior at Buckeye Central High School and the daughter of Mark Gwirtz and Tammy Gwirtz of Crestline, the Fellows Award of $15,500 a year for four years

Emma Breyley, a senior at Buckeye Central High School and the daughter of Brenda Breyley and Ray Breyley of New Washington, the Fellows Award of $15,500 a year for four years

Students who rank near the top of their high school class are invited to participate in the university’s annual scholarship competition. The program recognizes students based on high school grade-point average and ACT or SAT test scores. In addition to weighing a student’s academic credentials, the competition also looks at leadership skills and community service through a personal interview, a portfolio and an essay.
