Karen Sipes was the surprised recipient of the “Outstanding Employee of the Year” award presented to her at the annual Awards Banquet of the Ohio Cemetery Association held recently in Columbus. A Galion resident, Karen is the Administrative Assistant for the Galion Cemetery Association which owns and operates Fairview Cemetery independently of the city, township or any government tax base.

According to Cemetery Manager Shane Shipley, “Karen ‘s part-time position in our office has made a significant full-time impact on the association by expediting the automation of record-keeping. She has also been instrumental in helping to implement new policy changes for Fairview Cemetery that are periodically mandated by Ohio law. Her efforts have afforded me the additional time needed for my managerial duties outside the office which serve to protect and maintain the cemetery.”

The Ohio Cemetery Association is an organization of Ohio cemeteries, crematories, and funeral homes whose purpose is to provide support to these entities through training, education, and legislative assistance and to instill a spirit of cooperation and fellowship among its members and peer groups throughout the State of Ohio.

For more information on Fairview Cemetery, please contact Karen or Shane at the cemetery office at 1295 Fairview Ave., Galion, or call 419-468-5390 or visit the website at www.fairviewcemeterygalion.org.
