Extraordinary dinner theater is often times an oxymoron, but the Knightsounds and Northmor Junior Honors Choirs extinguished that myth last Saturday evening when they presented, “Where the Heart Takes You,” a dinner show presentation with a cast-chosen Disney theme and charity cause of cancer research for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

Once every two years, the troupe, under the direction of 31-year-veteran choir teacher Ann Ruth, stage a musical experience for Morrow and Crawford counties at Northmor High School.

Community members were treated to a max-capacity dinner, served enthusiastically by the Junior Honors Choir members, while enjoying piano and singing solos provided by individual Knightsounds artists.

During the gala proceedings, a silent auction and raffle was underway in pursuit of student-made blankets and quilts. According to Ruth, that event alone raised over $330 in the interest of cancer research for St. Jude. She added that a cast member crafting project bonded members and helped the cause.

The casual dinner entertainment of singing and piano entertainment ramped up into a high-tech show of sound, lighting, singing, dancing and stage entertainment.

Renditions of Disney’s “Pinocchio,” “Beauty and the Beast,” and “101 Dalmations” were among the many adapted, costumed, choreographed and performed by the cast.

Over 350 audience members filled their appointed seats.

Total donation to St. Jude has yet to be fully calculated, but according to Ruth, it should be a significant contribution to cancer research due to the generosity of school supporters.

Student auditions for Knightsounds are held in May for qualified students.
