Splash park aiming for Memorial Day opening

Staff report

The new Galion splash park is looking for a Memorial Day opening.

The city has added a couple of features to the park which are not part of the original Freese Grant which funded the project, but the additions fit under the current city budget.

They include:

* A small staff booth at the entrance to the splash park. This is where a volunteer will be stationed as, essentially, a babysitter when there are young kids using it, and to track who is going in and out. The booth will also house a landline phone because the mayor feels it is necessary in case of emergency. Cost is under $50,000.

* Fence with awning to enclose the splash park.

* A new bathroom to replace the facility near the baseball field. It is pre-fabricated, similar to the facility in Heise Park near the softball field. This item will be bid.
