Details emerge on possible Avita expansion

Plans are continuing to emerge concerning Avita’s possible expansion into Bellville.

Avita CEO Jerry Morasko and Mari Swearingen, vice-president of business development, both confirmed that Avita is looking at an area around the intersection of Interstate 71 and State Route 97 in Bellville at a location across from Wendy’s.

But both Morasko and Swearingen said that a deal to buy the property has not been finalized and that the plans are preliminary.

Jerry Morasko said Avita’s research has shown a larger amount of clients who come from the Bellville area.

“We want to make it more convenient for our patients and bring our services closer to people,” Morasko said.

He said that plans call for a 5,000 square foot doctors office facility with a focus on primary care and select specialty.

Avita offers specialized health care, she said, depending on the needs of the local community.

“Our goal is to bring health care to the patient so they don’t have to travel to places like Cleveland or Cincinnati,” Swearingen said.

Avita is headquartered in Galion and has a total of 29 medical facilities including three in Bucyrus and one in Crestline. Currently, an expanded Avita medical facility is under construction in Ontario and will be completed early next year.

Bellville Mayor Darrell Banks has said it would be “wonderful” for Avita to open up a facility in Bellville and that the idea is very-much needed, adding that the facility would bring good-paying jobs to the area and help increase income tax revenue for the village.

One of the locations that Avita is considering is across from the Wendy’s in Bellville.
