Charges have been filed against three juvenile girls after a fight that landed a 16-year-old Galion girl in the hospital with serious injuries.

Janet Lugo, 15, Galion, along with Elise Grabenauer of Galion and Shantez Kemper of Mansfield, both 16-years-old, are each charged with delinquency charges of felonious assault in Crawford County Juvenile Court. The charge would be a second-degree felony if committed by an adult.

“Felonious assault charges require serious physical harm. Despite the allegation of serious physical harm, these charges are not eligible under Ohio law to be bound over to Common Pleas Court for adult charges,” Crall said.

The victim, a Galion High School sophomore, was taken by medical helicopter to a Columbus hospital on March 2 after she was assaulted at a private residence on Payne Avenue in Galion. She reportedly suffered a torn liver, a torn spleen and cracked ribs from the assault.

As the girl was reportedly assaulted by the three girls, several other juveniles videotaped the incident that was cheered on by bystanders.

According to Crawford County Prosecutor Matthew Crall, a lengthy investigation was conducted by the Galion Police Department.

“Several unfounded and/or unprovable allegations have been in social media which will not result in criminal charges at this time,” Crall said.

Crall said the Galion Police Department continues to investigate this case and additional charges may be forthcoming if appropriate.

Bill Barker, a spokesman for the injured family of the injured girl, declined comment in an email Wednesday afternoon.
