New Washington man injured in crash

A semi-truck driver has been charged with improper backing and failure to stop after an accident on public roadways after leaving the scene of a crash that occurred Wednesday morning.

Daniel Schwartzbeck, 52, Crossville, Tenn., was traveling westbound on Ohio 39 when he stopped in the center of the intersection at Ohio 598 and put his 2011 Volvo semi-truck in reverse, colliding with a 2015 Kia Soul driven by Alan Gray, 38, New Washington, while he was stopped at the intersection.

According to a report by the Crawford County Sheriff’s Office, Schwartzbeck got out of his vehicle, observed the damage to Gray’s vehicle, then left the scene of the crash in his vehicle.

Deputies were able to locate Schwartzbeck at U.S. 30 and Ohio 4 with the assistance of the Bucyrus Police Department.

Gray was taken to Shelby Hospital with minor injuries.
